The buildup of snow and ice on roofs is a major safety concern and it can seriously impact building systems, leading to expensive repairs and causing costly downtime for commercial operators.

Icicles and heavy snow loads can cause damage, injury, or worse when falling from eaves and rooftops. Large snow loads can fall suddenly, blocking doorways and potentially trapping occupants inside. Gutters that become clogged with ice or overwhelmed by snow loads can be torn away from the roof edges, potentially falling on people and causing damage.

Ice dams are created when meltwater refreezes near the roof edge. Ice near the roof edge becomes taller as this process repeats, trapping more and more water. Eventually, ice dams can become large enough to force water up under the lower edges of roof coverings, causing leaks, roof damage, and even roof collapse.

These serious safety and building integrity concerns can be mitigated with a roof and gutter de-icing system. By melting snow and ice along the roof edge and providing an uninterrupted path for meltwater to drain away from the roof, a roof and gutter de-icing system protect buildings and occupants from the hazards of cold weather.

nVent RAYCHEM offers several different systems to protect your roof extreme winter conditions…

Residential Systems

FrostGuard Pre-Assembled, Plug-in Self-Regulating Kits

FrostGuard heating cables are ideal for winter protection in residential and light commercial applications. 120 V FrostGuard cables come pre-assembled in various lengths from 6 to 100 feet. They offer plug-and-play installation thanks to an integrated 6-foot power cord with a lighted, grounded plug.

WinterGard Wet Self-Regulating Cable

WinterGard Wet cut-to-length heating cable provides reliable roof-and-gutter de-icing in a wide variety of residential and light commercial applications. WinterGard Wet can be used for circuit lengths up to 400 feet and provides 6 W/ft at 40°F (4°C) and 8W/ft at 32°F (0°C).

RIM2 Concealed Roof and Gutter De-Icing System

The RIM2 system mounts on eaves, valleys, channels, rakes, and flat roof sections and is available in a variety of finishes to complement the design of any structure. RIM2 panels contain 2 runs of energy-efficient, self-regulating heating cable in a specially designed base and cover assembly, delivering high snow melting and de-icing performance with maximum efficiency.

Commercial Systems

IceStop Self-Regulating Cable

IceStop self-regulating cable provides high-performance roof and gutter de-icing in commercial applications. IceStop is suitable for use in all standard roofs, gutters, and drainpipes and is certified for hazardous and ordinary locations. Power output is 11 W/ft at 32°F (0°C) in ice water, 5.5 W/ft at 32°F (0°C) in air.

RIM Concealed Roof and Gutter De-Icing System

The RIM system consists of panels with 3 runs of high-wattage self-regulating cable, providing the ultimate in performance and aesthetics. RIM panels are specifically designed for eaves, valleys, channels, rakes, and flat roof sections. Engineered, turnkey RIM solutions are available to meet your specific Roof Ice Melt requirements.
